The Story of Taste of Catalonia
Taste of Catalonia was founded by Pep and Gareth, brought together by a shared love of Catalan food, wine, and culture.
Pep is from the Costa Brava. As an experienced restaurant owner, he brings deep knowledge of Catalan gastronomy, regional producers, and the wines of the Penedès. His long-standing relationships with vineyards and food producers help ensure authenticity and quality at the heart of everything we do.
Gareth first discovered Catalonia over ten years ago when he married there and quickly developed a passion for the region's produce - especially its wines. Inspired by the culture, hospitality, and craftsmanship he encountered, he set out to share the character of Catalan wine with the UK.
Together, Taste of Catalonia connects independent producers with new audiences, celebrating the flavours, stories, and heritage of Catalonia.
Catalonia, Wine, Landscape, and Tradition
Catalonia, in north-east Spain between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountains, is one of Europe’s most diverse wine regions. Coastal vineyards, inland plains, and mountain landscapes create a wide range of climates and soils, allowing wines of real character and individuality to flourish.
Winemaking here dates back more than 2,000 years. Today, long-established family cellars work alongside a new generation of producers who are rediscovering indigenous grape varieties and focusing on quality-led, sustainable viticulture.
Local grapes such as Xarel·lo, Macabeu, Parellada, Garnatxa, and Carinyena thrive in Catalonia’s climate, producing wines that are fresh, expressive, and deeply connected to place.
Wine in Catalonia is inseparable from daily life. It is part of the table, part of hospitality, and part of cultural identity — made to be shared with food, family, and friends.
At Taste of Catalonia, our producers are chosen through personal relationships and a shared belief in authenticity, craftsmanship, and respect for the land. Our aim is simple: to bring the character of Catalonia to the UK through wines that genuinely reflect where they come from.
The Story of Corpinat
Corpinnat is a collective of producers in the Penedès region of Catalonia dedicated to making high-quality sparkling wine using the traditional method — the same bottle-fermentation process used in Champagne.
While many sparkling wines from the region are labelled as Cava, Corpinnat was created by a group of producers who wanted to go further in their commitment to origin, sustainability, and vineyard quality. The name means “born in the heart of the Penedès” and reflects a focus on wines made entirely from organically farmed grapes grown in the region.
Corpinnat producers make their wines from indigenous varieties such as Xarel·lo, Macabeu, and Parellada, with long ageing in bottle to develop complexity and texture. Every step — from growing the grapes to making and ageing the wine — takes place at the winery.
The result is sparkling wine that expresses the landscape of the Penedès with clarity, structure, and depth.
At Taste of Catalonia, we work with producers who share this commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and respect for the land.
